Join Connecting Genetics to Climate on May 8 at Boston University’s CDS Conference Center for a day of conversations and insight into novel and potentially controversial emerging genetic technologies that can be used to address climate change.
Researchers at universities, institutes, government labs, and companies are exploring how genetics might be a tool to help with problems posed by a changing climate and how society can and should be involved in decision-making. Some technologies are already being trialed and many more are under development.
As these technologies are developed and become available, policymakers and communities will have to consider vital questions, such as: Who should decide when technologies are developed and used? What are foreseeable consequences? Can we design, and monitor use of, technologies to address potential unforeseen consequences?
We will spend the day in an interactive workshop, discussing these issues with experts in the field. In the evening, we will be hosting a public conversation, moderated by Boston Globe journalist David Abel, featuring perspectives from scientific researchers, journalists, and policy experts, including Andrew Revkin, award-winning environment journalist formerly with the New York Times; Melissa Hoffer, Massachusetts State Climate Chief; Sir Richard Roberts, Nobel laureate and Chief Science Officer at New England Biolabs; and Teal Brown Zimring, Executive Director of Lab to Land.
All are welcome to join! More information and registration here: https://connectgenetics.org/news/bostonmay2024event/
